The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for north Georgia, which warns of light snow and black ice from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning.
Snow is expected across north Georgia this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory. A "cold polar air mass" is expected to spread into north Georgia as widespread rain shifts south. The result: Rain will mix with and change over to snow across portions of north Georgia, including Cartersville and Bartow County. The heaviest snowfall would be in the northeast Georgia Mountains. A strong low pressure system and ample Gulf moisture will meet, resulting in widespread rain and an associated deep cold air mass that will begin to spread across north and central Georgia on Thursday afternoon and evening, meteorologists say in a special weather statement issued today.
