Chairman Amos: Forsyth Economic Forecast, Finances Remain "Strong"

The chair of the Forsyth County Commission recently gave his 2013 State of the County address.

Forsyth County's chairman is not holding back the optimism he has for the county to prosper in 2013. District 1 Commissioner Pete Amos recently gave the 2013 State of the County address during the State of the Community event organized by the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and Council for Quality Growth.  Amos said the county he came to love as his adopted home is not just a sense of place, but "it’s a sense of accomplishment, a sense of progress and a sense of pride." The chairman noted the county's economic outlook is "stronger than ever," and the county is forging ahead with completing some of its much-needed projects, such as a new courthouse and jail expansion, opening a new fire station in the Matt community and turning …

Motovario Expansion Adds Jobs in Forsyth County

The Italian manufacturer added $4 million in a new capital investment to expand its U.S. headquarters.

Forsyth County is getting 35 more jobs through a $4 million new capital investment by an existing manufacturer in the community. Motovario Inc. has expanded its U.S. headquarters, which are located on Bluegrass Lakes Parkway. Established in 1965 in the town of Formigine, at the heart of the Modena industrial district, Motovario has grown to become one of the most important Italian and European manufacturers of gear units for industrial and civil applications, according to a news release by the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce. Motovario’s new facility is adjacent to the headquarters of such international manufacturers as Enervex, Hansgrohe and Lonza. Lighting Technology Company Sets Up Shop, Creates Jobs in Forsyth County

Bright Light Systems new headquarters is located on McFarland Parkway and expects to create at least 50 jobs.

A company dedicated to the creative application of advanced lighting technologies has selected south Forsyth County as the home of its new headquarters. Bright Light Systems (BLS), Inc. was founded in 2010 to develop a prototype of an energy efficient LED fixture for NASA's Space Shuttle Program. In a recent announcement by the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, BLS anticipates that it will exceed $100 million in revenue in the next five to seven years and create at least 50 jobs. "Forsyth County offers excellent resources for skilled labor with the Lanier Technical College being a key factor," said Brad Lurie, president and CEO of BLS. WATCH: Business After Hours at Lake Lanier

The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce's monthly networking event was held on board a luxurious houseboat at Lake Lanier.

This month's Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours was a bit different. More than 50 local business professionals gathered at Harbor Landing located at Lake Lanier Islands for a boating excursion around Lake Lanier. The Lake Lanier Association hosted the monthly networking event on board a luxurious houseboat featuring light hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Several prices were also given away. $50K Up for Grabs from Forsyth Arts Alliance

The Forsyth County Arts Alliance is projected to award $50,000 in grants this summer.

Grant funding is now available for non-profit and governmental organizations interested in arts-related activities in the Cumming area through the Forsyth County Arts Alliance. “This marks the fifth year in our distribution of funds,” said Alliance Board President Kevin Tallant. “We awarded $50,000 to nine various projects last year and look forward to seeing the benefits these funds can provide again in 2013.” The grant application form and guidelines are available on the Forsyth Arts Alliance website. The deadline to apply is May 24, with funds available in July. A free workshop with further instructions on applying for these funds and for other grant funding in the arts will be held on March 21 at the Cumming Library located at 585 …

Forsyth County Schools Offers Free Wi-Fi Directory

The directory was created by Forsyth County Schools in partnership with the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce.

Students now have access to an online directory that provides a list of free Wi-Fi hotspots sponsored by organizations and businesses in Cumming and Forsyth County and an interactive map to find those hotspots. Forsyth County Schools created the directory in partnership with the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce. “The free Wi-Fi directory for students will be an invaluable resource to students that are learning on-the-go with their mobile devices or may not have Internet access in their homes,” said Buster Evans, superintendent of Forsyth County Schools in press release. "Green" Techie Company to Bring 150 Jobs to Forsyth

IUS Technologies is expected to generate approximately $10 million in capital investment and up to 150 jobs over the next five years.

A new U.S. manufacturing and distribution center will soon call south Forsyth County home. The U.S. headquarters of IUS Technologies, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Vitzro Group, will be situated in a 20,000 square foot facility located at 1355 McFarland 400 Drive, according to the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce (CFCCC). The facility is expected to generate approximately $10 million in capital investment and up to 150 jobs over the next five years. IUS will be manufacturing its “Born Smart” devices at the south Forsyth facility. Local Mentors Honored at Annual Breakfast Event

Mentor Me North Georgia honored the 2012 Forsyth County mentors.

"Mentoring is based on a very simple idea - someone who wants to improve the life of someone else becomes matched with someone who wants and needs the positive influence of a mentor."  A quote from James McCoy, president of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce at this year's "Magic Moments" breakfast. The annual event, sponsored by Mentor Me North Georgia, honored the 2012 Forsyth County mentors Tuesday. McCoy, a mentor himself and Mentor Me board member, was recognized as Mentor Me's "Longest Match," which means he has mentored his mentee, Dylan, for more than six years.
