Atheists Plan to Send Books to Georgia State Parks

American Atheists plan to send the Georgia Department of Natural Resources enough popular atheist books to place one in every state park cabin.

American Atheists, an atheist organization based out of Cranford, NJ, say they plan to send books on atheism to Georgia state parks. In a recent press release the organization stated the following: American Atheists announced Friday that it will send the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR) enough popular atheist books to place one in every state park cabin in the state. The atheist books will be placed alongside Gideon Bibles already in every state park cabin as directed by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal on Wednesday. The Bibles were initially removed following a complaint from former American Atheist President Ed Buckner who found nine Bibles in a cabin he had rented last month. But on May 15 Gov. UPDATE: Fisherman Finds Body Near Mary Alice Park

Authorities hope that the victim is George Counts, who has been missing since his boat was found empty on Lake Lanier a month ago.

UPDATE: 3-18-13, 11:15 p.m. The body of a man, who had been missing on Lake Lanier since Feb. 18, has been identified, according to Melissa Cummings, spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources. "Identification was confirmed today [Monday] following an autopsy identifying the victim as 47-year-old George Marty Counts of Tucker, Georgia," said Cummings. Cummings added that no cause of death has been listed yet and there was no apparent trauma shown. Counts body was discovered in the Little Ridge area of Lake Lanier in Forsyth County by two …

UPDATE: Search for Missing Man on Lake Lanier in Recovery Mode

DNR officials are searching Lake Lanier for a 47-year-old man "presumed deceased."

UPDATE: 2-19-13, 1 p.m. It's been one week since George M. Counts of Tucker went missing on Lake Lanier. DNR officials say they are in recovery mode as they look for the body of Counts. "All things indicate that we are in recovery mode at this point, and that he is presumed deceased," said Melissa Cummings, DNR spokesperson. "The rangers that are still involved in the search want nothing more than to be able to locate him to assist the family." Morning and evening surface searches will continue this week and perhaps longer, according to Cummings. "If they [rangers] see anything that would lead them to believe that side scan sonar and/or divers are needed, they will alert other agencies for assistance," she said. On Monday, Feb. 11, at …

DNR Offers Three Months Free at Shooting Range

Offer applies to new hunters' education graduates at any of the 18 Department of Natural Resources shooting ranges in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is offering hunter education graduates an opportunity to “give it a shot” for three months free. This is offered through a free three-month pass to any of the 18 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shooting ranges in Georgia. Typically, a wildlife management area license, which costs $19, or other qualifying license would be required for shooters age 16 and up. “A recent study of hunter education graduates showed that 26 percent of them did not purchase a hunting license within the first year of passing the test,” said Walter Lane, hunter development program manager. “When they don’t get the chance to hunt right away, it is a chance that we have lost a hunter. This range pass is an immediate …
