These lighter mornings indicate it's time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors, too.
By now, most people have noticed that daylight is beginning a little earlier each morning. That means that spring—and Daylight Saving Time—is near. In 2013, the big shift happens on Sunday, March 10. You should set your clocks forward at 2 a.m., meaning, yes, you'll lose an hour of sleep. But you'll get an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day. The time change will last until Nov. 3, 2013, when clocks will fall back an hour. When you change your clocks in the fall and spring, the Forsyth County Fire Department reminds you that it is also a good time to change smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries and check to make sure the devices are in working order. The Fire Department’s Public Safety Education Division also provides …

You've got an extra hour to sleep this weekend.
Those early morning commutes will get darker before they get lighter. Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends this weekend—officially at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. Remember, we all “fall back” so set the clocks back one hour before you head to bed. Plus it also means extra sleep. Keep in mind many electronic devices automatically adjust when DST begins or ends. When you do change your clocks this weekend, the Forsyth County Fire Department reminds you that it is also a good time to change smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries and check to make sure the devices are in working order. “Replacing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors takes only a few minutes and could prove to be life-saving,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman. This weekend Daylight Saving Time comes to an end for another year - leaving us with shorter days.
This weekend for most of the United States, Daylight Saving Time ends and Eastern Standard Time begins at 2 a.m. on November 4. That means the length of the day will be shorter as winter approaches. According to Time and Date, on Sunday you can expect the sun to rise at 7 a.m. and set at 5:42 a.m. All states, with the exception of Arizona and Hawaii, along with the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa, recognize Daylight Saving Time every spring. InfoPlease.com reports, in April 2005 Indiana passed a law agreeing to observe daylight saving time with the rest of the country. Then four months later, Congress passed an energy bill that included extending Daylight Saving Time by about a month. In 2007, DST began…

This weekend is the official time to "spring forward" in 2012.
This is the official weekend to switch back to Daylight Saving Time, so don't forget to "spring forward." At 2 a.m. Sunday, March 11, the time will be moved forward by one hour. What used to begin on the first Sunday in April and ended the last Sunday in October has been extended to make for a longer period of daylight saving each year. This year it will run from March 11 until Nov. 4. The Forsyth County Fire Department also encourages you to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. “While changing the clocks in your home, please take the time to replace the batteries in the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors throughout your house,” said Capt. Jason Shivers. “It is a simple task that could potentially …

On Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 a.m. we officially switch off Daylight Saving Time and revert to Eastern Standard Time. DST kicked off March 13 for an extended period of daylight saving in 2011. Before you head to bed tonight, set your clocks ahead one hour.
Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 2 a.m., Sunday, March 13th.
Friday, March 11, 2011
We have reached that time of year when the days become longer.
This is the weekend where we set the clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. on Sun., March 13 as Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins. According to timeanddate.com, DST is a way of getting more light out of the day by advancing clocks by one hour during the summer. During DST, the sun appears to rise one hour later in the morning, when people are usually asleep anyway, and sets one hour later in the evening, seeming to stretch the day longer. With the loss of one hour’s sleep on Sunday, here are some tips to stay on track this weekend and every day (courtesy of Northside Hospital-Forsyth). Aside from setting the clocks ahead one hour and losing sleep, it may also be a good time to change out the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. “…
