County officials recounted the votes in last week's Primary election Wednesday. As expected, Sen. Jack Murphy defeated Steve Voshall and Geoff Duncan edged former State Rep. Tom Knox.
The Forsyth County Registrations and Elections Board completed its recount of the Senate District 27 and House District 26 votes Wednesday afternoon with only a slight change in the vote tally and no change in the outcome of the two-hotly contested races. Incumbent Sen. Jack Murphy received 13,290 votes to challenger Steve Voshall's 13,176. Murphy's total was unchanged. Voshall's final tally represents a loss of one vote. There was no change in the election night totals in the House District 26 race. Former major league pitcher Geoff Duncan defeated former State Rep. Tom Knox by a count of 4,507 to 4,452. A recount of the Senate District 27 and House District 26 races is complete with no change in either race.
The Forsyth County Registrations and Elections Board completed its recount of the Senate District 27 and House District 26 races this afternoon (Wednesday) with only a slight change in the vote tally and no change in the results. Incumbent Sen. Jack Murphy received 13,290 votes to challenger Steve Voshall's 13,176. Murphy's total was unchanged. Voshall's final tally represents a loss of one vote. There was no change in the election night results in the race for House of Representatives. Geoff Duncan received 4,507 votes to former State Rep. Tom Knox 4,452. Three runoffs between candidates running for sheriff, coroner, and District 4 Commissioner extend the campaign trail, the anticipation, and the final results for Forsyth County.
Update: Aug. 3, 2:10 p.m. Garnering less than 50 percent, (plus one vote) of the total votes is common when more than two candidates are running for an office. It also means some candidates will face each other again in a runoff election on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Even in a substantial margin of popular vote, these are the rules as promulgated by the State Election Board at the Georgia Secretary of State Elections Division. Three sets of candidates are facing a runoff after voters made their choices at Forsyth County's polls Tuesday.
