Forsyth Seniors Citizens Dance The Night Away at Prom

Forsyth County Senior Services recently held a prom for residents at Sexton Hall, which serves active adults age 50 and over.

Forsyth County's active adults recently proved prom is not just a rite of passage for high school teenagers. With the help of a local Girl Scout, Forsyth County Senior Services held a prom for its clients at Sexton Hall. The event was also attended by deputies from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and firefighters from the Forsyth County Fire Department. The prom was organized by a girl scout, who coordinated the event with the county agency as part of her effort to obtain her Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can obtain.

Meals on Wheels Benefit Concert Tonight

The Air National Guard “Band of the South” performs tonight at the Sexton Hall Enrichment Center in south Forsyth County.

Forsyth County Senior Services is hosting a concert to benefit high needs clients in the Meals on Wheels program, according to a press release. Participants will enjoy a free concert by the Air National Guard “Band of the South” performing tonight, April 5, at the Sexton Hall Enrichment Center from 7 to 9 p.m. “We are really looking forward to what will be a great concert for a fantastic cause,” said Michael Bohn, director of Senior Services. “We are very fortunate to have a band of this caliber offer to come perform for the community.” While admission to the concert is free, donations will be accepted. All funds raised during the charity concert will go toward providing much needed household and personal items for the Meals on Wheels …

Forsyth Senior Expo Returns This Weekend

Now in its eleventh year, the event will be held in a new location.

The annual Forsyth County Senior Expo is on tap for this weekend hosted by the Forsyth County Senior Services. This year the event will be held at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Forsyth Senior Expo, now in its eleventh year, is an opportunity for senior citizens as well as their families and friends to learn about planning for the future. The free event provides a venue for information regarding a variety of topics including health care, housing, finance, safety and security, recreation, and travel. Letter to the Editor: Forsyth Seniors Receive Gifts from Angels

Forsyth County Senior Services extends our sincerest thanks and appreciation to all who supported our two holiday programs – the Holiday Gift Angels Program and the Home-Delivered Meal Holiday Gift Certificate Program.

Through the Holiday Gift Angels Program, 597 gifts were given to local seniors solely from the generosity of their fellow citizens in Forsyth County. While a blanket, robe or cookies may not seem like much to others, these gifts were greatly appreciated by the seniors in our community. Most importantly, it showed these seniors that someone was thinking about them during the holidays. What a precious gift! Through the Home-Delivered Meal Holiday Gift Certificate Program, we received financial donations that allowed us to provide 4,688 meals to seniors in Forsyth County. Individuals, churches, corporations and other groups truly shared the spirit of the season with our home-bound seniors by making these generous contributions. It is this …

Have Breakfast with Santa on Saturday

Forsyth County Senior Services is hosting breakfast with Santa this Saturday morning.

Before Santa makes his multi-million toy drops on Christmas Eve, he'll be visiting Forsyth County this weekend. Families are invited to have breakfast with Santa to celebrate the Christmas season hosted by Forsyth County Senior Services and the Sexton Hall Enrichment Center. Forsyth Senior Services Looking for Holiday Gift Angels

The annual program helps bring holiday cheer to local seniors.

Help spread seasonal cheer and be a holiday angel to a local senior citizen by taking part in the 2012 Holiday Gift Angels Program presented by Forsyth County Senior Services. “The Holiday Gift Angels Program is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our seniors and also spread holiday cheer,” said Senior Services Manager Valerie Rhoads in a press release. “The gifts help remind our senior citizens that someone is thinking about them during the holiday season.” Last year, 230 local seniors received Christmas gifts through the Holiday Gift Angels Program. Forsyth County to Offer Health Fair for Seniors

Seniors can get health screenings and take part in exercise demonstrations, such as yoga, Tai Chi and ballroom dancing, at the Healthy Aging and Fitness Fair on Tuesday, July 24.

Forsyth County Senior Services will offer seniors an opportunity to receive important health information at the Healthy Aging and Fitness Fair on Tuesday, July 24. The free event is for adults ages 50+ and will be held at the Sexton Hall Enrichment Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Forsyth Senior Services Host Sock Hop

Forsyth County Senior Services invites residents for a trip back in time at Sexton Hall.

This weekend Forsyth County Senior Services will host a Sock Hop at the newly opened Sexton Hall Enrichment Center for residents 40 and older. “We expect this will be a very special night and will be full of exciting surprises attendees will never forget,” said Senior Services Interim Director Valerie Rhoads in a news release. Residents are invited to turn back the clocks and take off their shoes for this fun event on Saturday, May 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. You can expect classic sock hop diner food, dancing, entertainment and many special surprises.  “We are all really looking forward to this event and are encouraging everyone who attends to dress in 1950's and 60's attire," said Rhoads.
