Sheriff's Office Names Employee of the Quarter

Deputy First Class Clint Thaxton is recognized due to his help in nabbing a suspect wanted for statutory rape.

Deputy First Class Clint Thaxton has been selected as the Headquarters Bureau Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2012, according to Lt. Col. D.T. Smith of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. He is recognized for being instrumental in working with the U.S. Marshals Service Taskforce in extraditing a suspect, wanted for statutory rape, back to Forsyth County. In April 2010, a warrant was issued for Victor Rojo, now 20 years old, for the rape of a 14-year-old girl. In October of that year, the same teenage girl disappeared from her home. Rojo was again a suspect. A month later, in November, the young girl returned home and was charged as a runaway. During this time period, on a couple of occasions, information was obtained …

Cumming Man Charged with Sex Crimes

A 31-year-old man is charged with 11 sex crimes involving at least four boys he falsely met on Facebook.

A Cumming man faces 11 sex crimes for allegedly posing as a teenage girl on Facebook to elicit sexual images from middle-school age boys, according to authorities. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested 31-year-old Brendan J. Spaar Tuesday night and charged him with four counts of child molestation, four counts of sexual exploitation of children and three counts of computer pornography. According to Investigator J.D. Roe of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division, Spaar had created a fictitious page on Facebook, posing as a 16-year-old girl from South Forsyth High School with the name of Kinsey Spencer. “This girl does not exist,” said Roe in a news release. “We have checked with …

Thieves Identified Thanks to Social Media

Suspected credit card thieves were captured on camera and their photos posted on the Internet.

Two Forsyth County women suspected of stealing a credit card turned themselves in earlier this week after discovering their photos were posted on Facebook and they were wanted for the theft, according to authorities.            Khrista M. Simonds, 21, and Elaine F. Dishroom, 47, are accused of stealing a credit card on April 1 and making several fraudulent transactions at Kroger and CVS Pharmacy on Canton Highway the same day. “Investigator Frank Karic obtained a video from CVS of the two female suspects who used the victim’s credit card, Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said. Two Killed in Separate Vehicle Crashes Sunday

A 50-year-old man and a 20-year old woman, both from Cumming, were killed in separate vehicle crashes over the weekend.

Two people from Cumming were killed over the weekend in separate vehicle accidents. Catherine M. Jarvis, 20, of Cumming, was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Worth County, Ga. (located about 222 miles southeast of Cumming). The driver, Tamara E. Jarvis, 47, was taken to an area hospital, and a third passenger Paige E. Jarvis, 17, was airlifted to a hospital in Macon, authorities said. Both are also from Cumming. The older Jarvis, who was driving a Nissan Quest, stopped at a stop sign but continued into the path of a six-wheel truck resulting in the crash, reports WorthIt2u.net. Argument Leads to Stabbing, Arrest in Cumming

A 27-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and two counts of cruelty to children.

One man is in custody after allegedly stabbing another man during a dispute at a north Forsyth County home, authorities said. Deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of an argument at 7610 Bannister Road in Cumming on Tuesday around 6 p.m. When deputies got to the home they found Cal Blackstone, 31, holding a cloth to his side where he had been stabbed, but the suspect was nowhere to be found. Two women who were also at the residence with Blackstone provided deputies with a description, direction of travel and identity of the suspect, a news release stated. UPDATE: Missing Forsyth County Teen Returns Home

The 15-year-old who went missing this week is safe at home.

UPDATED 12:50 p.m., April 12: A teenager, missing for about 32 hours returned home on his own just before noon on Thursday, April 12, authorities said. John “Calvin” Felso, 15, who was last seen around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Oakmont Subdivision off Atlanta Highway and Post Road in south Forsyth County, is safe and has reunited with his family. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office issued a news release asking the public to keep an eye out for the teen, who was considered to be "in need of immediate medical attention." Officials with the sheriff's office searched for Felso all day Wednesday and into Thursday morning using K9s and other efforts. It is unknown where the youth had been during his absence.

Man Dies Following Two-Car Crash in South Forsyth

A two-car crash Friday night claims the life of one.

A 20-year-old man died and a 21-year-old man was hospitalized following a two-car crash Friday night, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. The accident happened around 9:01 p.m. at the intersection of McFarland Parkway and Union Hill Road in south Forsyth County. Gustavo Ramirez, 20, was a passenger in a 2004 Toyota Corolla that was being driven by Jorge Humberto Ruano, 21, both of nearby Alpharetta, according to Corporal David Garrison. Ruano who was traveling east on McFarland Parkway, attempted to make a left turn onto Union Hill Road, when he failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2002 GMC Yukon. Have You Seen This Forsyth County Teen?

Authorities are looking for missing 15-year-old who may be in danger.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a teenager who may be in danger. John "Calvin" Felso, 15, was last seen around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Oakmont Subdivision off Atlanta Highway and Post Road in south Forsyth County, according to a news release. "Calvin could be in need of immediate medical attention," said Sheriff Ted Paxton. Felso is described as 5’8” tall, 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be wearing faded blue jeans and low-cut Converse tennis shoes. If you have any information regarding the teenager's whereabouts, or know anyone who may have had contact with him, contact the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office at 770-781-3087.

Sheriff's Office Investigative Team Receives Award

Three law enforcement officials were recognized for their dedication and skill in solving multi-million dollar burglary.

Lieutenant Bill Franco, Sergeant Scotty Spriggs and Investigator Travis Spriggs with the Property Crimes Unit of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office were presented last week with the Law Enforcement Award by Atlanta Metropol. The three were honored by the organization for their work in solving one of the largest jewelry heists in Georgia's history. Chief Samuel Patterson of the Riverdale Police Department, who presented the award, said he recalled the burglary of Milano's Fine Jewelry last September, and the skill and dedication it took of the investigative team to solve the case. First State Prescription Drug 'Take Back Box' Debuts in Forsyth County

The box, located inside of the South Precinct of the sheriff's office, is accessible Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

UPDATE: (April 4, 2012, 9 a.m., toxicity concerns, types of drugs accepted) The first 'Prescription Drug Take Back Box' in Georgia was unveiled recently at the south precinct of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. The box provides a depository for unwanted prescription drugs from households. It came about through a grant the sheriff's office applied for after realizing in 2010 that efforts were needed to concentrate more on what’s happening in the community with prescription drugs.
