After a chilly weekend, Cumming and Forsyth County will soon see rain and warmer temperatures.
Cumming and Forsyth County residents will soon see rain — and mild temperatures — return this week. After a cold weekend, a chance of rain will linger tonight and into Tuesday night. However, sunny skies will return on Wednesday and a warm-up will move into the city on Friday, and will remain in the area through Sunday. While the precipitation for our area will be rain, there's a slight chance that rain could turn into snow showers across portions of extreme north Georgia Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. In Cumming, temperatures today will reach the mid 50s and will drop to around 42 tonight. Tonight will also bring with it a 30 percent chance of rain in the area. Portions of north and central Georgia could see some snow flurries or a wintry mix as temps drop headed into the weekend. Overnight freezing temps are expected through Sunday night, and Friday night and Saturday hold slight chances of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a freeze warning that includes Cumming and Forsyth County. It's effective through 9 a.m. Friday. "A fast-moving but potent upper low sweeping across the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians [on] Saturday will bring a chance for at least light wintry precipitation to north Georgia," according to NWS' Hazardous Weather Outlook. "Any accumulations are expected to remain light at this time. Generally a half inch or less mainly across far…

"Strong upper level support suggest a few storms could be severe" across north and central Georgia. In Cumming, fog may be a problem early Tuesday, when the high is expected to reach 66, according to the NWS forecast. Wednesday holds a 100 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, …

Snow is expected across north Georgia this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory. A "cold polar air mass" is expected to spread into north Georgia as widespread rain shifts south. The result: Rain will mix with and change over to snow across portions of north Georgia, including Cartersville and Bartow County. The heaviest snowfall would be in the northeast Georgia Mountains. The winter weather advisory, which lapses Friday morning at 7, warns of light snow and black ice north of a Carrollton-to-Atlanta-to-Jefferson line and south of a Rome-to-Hiawassee line.
