Proposed Charter School Would Serve All Counties

International Charter School hosting town hall at Fowler Park in south Forsyth on Tuesday.

A proposed charter school in Forsyth County that would be open to all children in the state is hosting a Town Hall to introduce itself to the community on Tuesday. Following the November election in which voters approved an amendment giving the state the power to approve charter schools, a group of parents and educators have filed an intent to launch the International Charter School of Atlanta. The group claims that the school would be the first and only triple-language immersion K through 8th grade school open to all children in Georgia. "We've had way more intents to apply than expected," so far, said Christina Crumbley, one of the school's board members. She said the school has seen 160 intents and "we haven't even held our first town …

Forsyth Firefighters Rescue Young Deer from Pond

For two days a young doe endures the cold temperatures while trapped in a storage pond at Fowler Park.

A young doe is probably a lot warmer and dryer thanks to a group of rescuers who pulled her out of a storage pond at Fowler Park Wednesday. Division Chief Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department said emergency crews were alerted around 11 a.m. that the doe, about a year old, was in the pond and that she had been in the water since Monday, Dec. 31. "The staff at the Fowler Water Treatment Plant saw her in that pond and thought that she would get herself out," he said. Shivers explained why the staff waited two days before alerting authorities. "They had never experienced that before, they had never encountered a deer in a pond before, so their assumption was that, and likely so, that she would get herself out and it would be …

Fowler Park Offering Children's Acting Workshop

The four-week workshop is entitled, “Imagine It! Do It!,” presented by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation.

If your children have an interest in the performing arts – beginning this weekend they can discover their acting talent by participating in a children's acting workshop offered at Fowler Park. “This program will offer young people the opportunity to have fun discovering a new talent,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Kinsey said. “By using their imagination and expressing themselves through acting, children participating in this workshop can improve their confidence while having fun.” The four-week workshop entitled, “Imagine It! Do It!,” is presented by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation and is available for children ages 6- to 8-years-old. A 'Mutts' See Festival Saturday

The second annual Mutts and More Festival, hosted by the Humane Society of Forsyth County, takes place Saturday.

Make plans to attend the second annual Mutts and More Festival at its new location, Fowler Park, in south Forsyth County. The event, hosted by the Humane Society of Forsyth County (HSFC), kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Lance White, president of the HSFC, said the festival was moved to Fowler Park to attract the people that would already be at the park to Mutts and More. A lot is planned for this year's worthy fundraiser. The Mutt Strutt, a 2-mile walk with your pooch, begins at 10 a.m. and costs $25 to participate with all proceeds going towards the HSFC. Atlanta Hawks Basketball Camp Coming to Forsyth County

The camp is for boys and girls ages 7-16 and will be held at Fowler Park and Old Atlanta Park this summer.

The Atlanta Hawks Summer Basketball Camp will make two stops in south Forsyth County, first at Fowler Park on June 4 through June 8 and at Old Atlanta Park on June 18 through June 22. The camps are open to boys and girls ages 7-16 and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. According to the Hawks' release, the camps, "offer a high-energy opportunity for young players and fans to improve their skills, play the game, meet friends and have fun." Camp features include Atlanta Hawks guests and trainers, a 2012-13 regular season Hawks game ticket and Hawks gear, the organization said. The cost for each camp is $200. Forsyth County’s Great American Cleanup Approaching

In celebration of Earth Day, organizers with Keep Forsyth County Beautiful is readying for a local cleanup effort on Saturday.

Organizers with Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) encourages everyone to make a difference this weekend by getting a group of volunteers together to help clean up the county in celebration of Earth Day. Saturday, April 20, is "Forsyth County’s Great American Cleanup at Fowler Park located at 4110 Carolene Way, off of Atlanta Highway across from the intersection with Castleberry Road. Volunteers already committed to participate will meet in the large pavilion at the park at 9 a.m. for a brief rally and to gather supplies. Forsyth County's New Dog Park Opens Over The Weekend

Fowler Park is home to the latest dog park in Forsyth County.

Dog owners and their four-legged friends now have a new dog park to enjoy in Forsyth County at Fowler Park. The 1.5 acre park includes a fenced area allowing dogs to play and run in a safe, confined grassy/mulched area without leashes. There are also two sections, one for small dogs and the other for large dogs weighing 35 pounds or more. “We are very excited to open this amenity to our residents and their dogs, and expect it will be a very popular part of Fowler Park,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Kinsey in a statement. The dog park opens daily at 8 a.m. until sunset (unless otherwise posted).
