Forsyth Holds Successful "Kids Shop with Cops"

Cumming Patch was at the event and caught up with several kids and the cops that shopped with them.

It was another successful kids shop with cops event Wednesday evening at the Cumming Walmart on Market Place Boulevard. The annual "FOP Cops and Kids©" event, hosted by the Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 82, helped out 103 children in need living in Forsyth County. "Within those 103, we had a couple of families from the Abba House, but the majority of those families were people from the community that the [Forsyth County] school social workers pointed out to us," said Det. Matt Starr of the FCSO and State Trustee with the local FOP. "We're actually helping families that were in need that weren't receiving any other assistance," he said. Forsyth Kids Shop with Cops Wednesday

The annual "FOP Cops and Kids©" event, that helps needy kids in the community, takes place on Wednesday evening at Walmart in Cumming.

It's that time of the year again when local deputies and police officers get together on one night to brighten the holiday season for many needy children in Forsyth County. The annual "FOP Cops and Kids©" event, hosted by the Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 82, is Wednesday, Dec. 12. The shopping excursion begins at 6 p.m. at Walmart located at 1500 Market Place Boulevard in Cumming. Last year 59 needy children participated in the program. This year the lodge is helping more than 100 children between the ages of 3 and 14, according to Det. Matt Starr of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and a State Trustee with the local FOP. Forsyth County Kids Shop with Cops

Kids and cops shopped for the holidays at local Walmart.

More than 50 Forsyth County children between the ages of 3-years-old and 14 shopped with local law enforcement officials at Walmart located on Market Place Boulevard on Wednesday evening. The annual "FOP Cops and Kids©" event was hosted by the Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 82. This year the FOP sponsored 59 kids who each received $125 to spend anyway they wanted to on holiday gifts. Their names were provided to the FOP through local churches, the YMCA, social workers within the Forsyth County school system and Abba's House, according to Sgt. Local Cops are Reaching Out to Forsyth County Kids

Local deputies and police officers will be joining the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 82 in their "FOP Cops and Kids" holiday event Wednesday evening at Walmart.

Local deputies and police officers are getting together for the annual "FOP Cops and Kids©" shopping event Wednesday evening. The event, hosted by the Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 82 , will begin at 6 p.m. at Walmart located at 1500 Market Place Boulevard in Cumming. This year the FOP is sponsoring 59 needy children in Forsyth County and is looking for about 40 officers to show up in uniform or in "police" attire to help the children shop for holiday gifts. Each sponsored child between the ages of 3 and 14 will receive $125 to spend during the shopping. "It's one officer per family," said Sgt.
