Authorities hope that the victim is George Counts, who has been missing since his boat was found empty on Lake Lanier a month ago.
UPDATE: 3-18-13, 11:15 p.m. The body of a man, who had been missing on Lake Lanier since Feb. 18, has been identified, according to Melissa Cummings, spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources. "Identification was confirmed today [Monday] following an autopsy identifying the victim as 47-year-old George Marty Counts of Tucker, Georgia," said Cummings. Cummings added that no cause of death has been listed yet and there was no apparent trauma shown. "So, for example - it does not appear that he fell and struck his head or otherwise causing him to fall overboard, but cannot yet rule out other health issues, such as a heart attack," she said. The funeral for Nelson Garner, the Cumming man who was found murdered in his deer processing business, is scheduled for Saturday.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. for the slain Cumming man whose body was found in Hancock County, Ga. over the weekend. The family of Nelson Garner, 60, will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until hour of the service. The funeral will also be held there. Garner's body was discovered by his brother in the deer processing business they both operated called Garner’s Grinder Sunday night around 9:30. A 60-year-old Cumming man was found murdered Sunday night in his deer processing business in Hancock County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The body of Nelson Garner was found by a relative around 9:30 p.m. at Garner’s Grinder located at 18630 Highway 16 in Sparta, Ga. Foul play is not suspected following the discovery of a Cumming man's body found near a burning vehicle.
Forsyth investigators have identified the Cumming man whose body was found near a burning vehicle on Pilgrim Mill Circle off Pilgrim Mill Road in northeast Forsyth County Monday afternoon. William Joseph Barefoot, 53, of Cumming, was discovered at the scene of a vehicle fire, according to Capt. Tim House of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies and fire units responded to a report of a vehicle fire following a 911 call from a nearby resident around 12:59 p.m. Monday. Capt. House told Cumming Patch that the caller said, "There was a car burning in a ditch and there was a man's body laying next to it."
