Forsyth Fire Chief Joins Safety Board

Fire Chief Danny Bowman says his "humbled" by appointment.

Forsyth County Fire Chief Danny Bowman was recently named to the Board of the Georgia Department of Public Safety. "I am deeply honored and humbled that the governor trusts me with this appointment,” said Bowman. “I promise the citizens of Forsyth County that I will represent them well as a member of the Georgia Board of Public Safety." The mission of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is to work cooperatively with all levels of government to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors to the state. Ten Fatalities in Georgia Over Labor Day Weekend

The GSP reports 10 traffic fatalities across the state during the Labor Day weekend, a drop since 2010.

At least 10 motorists were killed over the Labor Day Weekend, according to Georgia State Patrol.  That number is down from last year, which saw 15 traffic fatalities. In 2010, 19 were reported.   Fatalities were reported from Cobb County Police, Gwinnett County Police, Henry County Police, GSP Douglas, GSP Toccoa, GSP Valdosta, two from GSP Cartersville, and two from GSP Madison, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety website.  Georgia State Patrol investigated a total of 373 traffic accidents, which resulted in 230 injuries.  On top of the accidents, GSP arrested a total of 240 people for driving under the influence. Holiday Traffic Accidents Across Georgia, 15 Fatalities

The GSP reports 15 traffic fatalities across Georgia during the Memorial Day weekend.

At least 15 people died across the state over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety . The fatalities reported by the following law enforcement agencies include, three from Cobb County Police, one from Gwinnett County Police, two from Columbus Police, one from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and two from the Houston County Sheriff's Office. The following fatalities were reported by the following Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Posts: one from GSP Lafayette, one from GSP Toccoa, one from GSP Athens, one from GSP Dublin, one from GSP Helena and one from GSP Douglas. Four Die in Holiday Traffic Accidents Across State

The GSP reports four traffic fatalities in Georgia over the Christmas holiday weekend, overall traffic fatalities in the state are on the decline.

During the 78-hour travel weekend that began on Friday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. through Monday, Dec. 26 at midnight, there were four fatalities statewide over the Christmas holiday weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The fatalities over the weekend included two from Cobb County Police, one from Atlanta Police and one from the GSP Post in Washington, a city in Wilkes County, about two hours east of Cumming. Last year during the Christmas holiday period the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reported 351 crashes, 280 injuries and three fatalities. Fifteen Die in Holiday Traffic Accidents Across State

The Georgia State Patrol reports 15 traffic fatalities statewide over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, compared to 13 for the same period last year.

  During the 102-hour travel weekend that began on Wednesday at 6 p.m. through Sunday at midnight, there were 15 fatalities statewide over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety . Last year the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reported 437 crashes, 397 injuries and 8 fatalities. Statewide in 2010, with all agencies reporting, there were 13 fatalities, 2,571 crashes and 1,099 injuries reported. Georgia State Patrol Welcomes Two Troopers to Cumming

Two new troopers will be joining the Georgia State Patrol Post 37 that serves Forsyth, Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Two new graduates from the Georgia State Patrol Trooper School will be joining the Georgia State Patrol Post 37 that serves Forsyth, Dawson and Lumpkin counties. Darius Goss and Andrew Phillips along with 33 other troopers graduated on Thursday at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA. The graduation ceremony marked the completion of 31 weeks of rigid law enforcement training that included three months of on-the-road field training under the guidance of veteran field training officers.   "These troopers have received the best training available," said Colonel Mark McDonough, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
