New GA 400 Interchange in Forsyth County?

A proposal to construct a new interchange on Georgia 400 in south Forsyth County is in the works.

A new interchange on Georgia 400 and McGinnis Ferry Road in south Forsyth County may be on the horizon, according to a press release from the Georgia House of Representatives. The Georgia Department of Transportation on Thursday approved an Interchange Justification Report (IJR) on the proposed project much to the delight of the Forsyth County Legislative Delegation. State lawmakers from Forsyth, North Fulton, Dawson, Cherokee and Lumpkin counties, who make up the delegation, have long supported the road project. “We are very pleased that this important new interchange received approval from the Federal Highway Administration and GDOT," the delegation said. I too work, travel and own property that area and have thought an exit in that area is overdue . It seems a logical placement to those of us who have seen the growth in the last decade. It always seemed to me there should have been an exit there from Ga.400's inception.   more ›

Road Work Continues in Forsyth, Nearby Counties

This is the third week GDOT crews have been out and about repairing sections of Highway 20 in Forsyth County.

Roadwork on Highway 20 in northwest Forsyth County continues this week as maintenance crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) patch damaged asphalt. You'll notice the roadwork taking place from Tower Road toward Cumming to Pine Lake Drive and in the reverse direction, according to Teri Pope of GA DOT. "This work will require a single lane closure through the work zone," she said. Weather permitting, scheduled work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Friday, Feb. 22. If emergency response is needed at a crash scene or if emergency repairs are necessary this schedule will change. GDOT maintenance crews continue work this week on Highway 20.

Maintenance crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) are resuming their work this week on patching damaged asphalt on Highway 20. The roadwork is taking place from Tower Road toward Cumming to Pine Lake Drive in the outside lane, according to Teri Pope of GA DOT. Then work will shift and go the other way from Pine Lake Dive to Tower Road also in the outside lane. "The outside lanes are worst then the inside lane," she said. Crews are also trimming brush and trees along Highway 53 and Highway 136 in Dawson County. They will also be mowing the slopes along Highway 52, and cleaning and repairing the ditches and trimming brush along Highway 53 and Highway 323 in Hall County. Beginning today (Monday) and all this week maintenance crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) are in Forsyth County working on patching damaged asphalt on Highway 20 from milepost 5 to 7.5. During the project the work will require a single lane closure through the work zone. Crews are also trimming brush and trees along Highway 53 and Highway 136 in Dawson County. GDOT Issues Inclement Weather Road Advisory

GDOT is urging motorists to monitor weather conditions in advance with the possibility of light snow and icy roadways expected Thursday and Friday in areas of North Georgia.

Weather forecasts for areas of north Georgia and Forsyth County are calling for rain and snow, and possibly black ice accumulations on roadways as far south as Columbus beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Due to the expected inclement weather, the Georgia Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan ahead before traveling during this timeframe and check weather and road conditions before heading out. “We are continuously monitoring current weather conditions and forecasts as snow flurries and high winds are predicted for north Georgia," said Keith Golden, Georgia DOT Commissioner. GDOT maintenance crews are working on Georgia 400 and Highway 306 this week.

Beginning today (Monday) and all this week maintenance crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) are in Forsyth County working on shoulder repairs on Highway 369 and guardrail repairs on Georgia 400 northbound at Highway 306. Crews are also taking care of vegetation management on Highway 53 in neighboring Dawson County. Most activities will only require shoulder or median lane closures. Forsyth County Road Work This Week

GDOT maintenance crews will be working on Highway 369 and 20 in Forsyth and on Georgia 400 in Dawson County.

Beginning today (Monday) maintenance crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will be in Forsyth County this week working on shoulder repairs on Highway 369 and patching areas of Highway 20 that will require lane shifts. Crews will also be working on GA 400 at Dawson Forest Road doing concrete work that will also require lane shifts, according to a press release by Teri Pope with GDOT. New Traffic Signal on Highway 141 in South Forsyth

The new signal is expected to be operational Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 7.

If all goes well, weather permitting, a new traffic signal will be in operational mode in south Forsyth Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 7, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The traffic signal, flashing in test mode now, is located at the intersection of Highway 141/Peachtree Parkway and Stoney Point Road. GDOT reports that each intersection is reviewed to determine if the intersection meets the federal guidelines for the installation of a traffic signal and this one did. “Once the signal is operational, please use extra caution until you get familiar with the new signal location," said Georgia DOT District Engineer, Bayne Smith. "Don't Put Political Signs in Right of Way, GDOT Warns

Every political season campaign signs placed in the right of way are removed by maintenance crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Ever political season there are complaints of campaign signs being stolen, but often it’s not the opposing candidate’s camp that is to blame. As in the past, the Georgia Department of Transportation is warning political candidates and campaigns not to place signs on rights of way. If they do, those signs will be removed - not by the opposing campaign, but by maintenance crews from GDOT. “Unauthorized signs are against the law,” GDOT District Engineer Bayne Smith said in a press release. “All signs on the state system, which includes all interstates and state routes, must be approved and permitted in order to be placed on our right of way.
