State Ending Online Driver’s License Renewals

In 2010, Georgia began issuing higher security driver’s licenses and identification cards.

A new program designed to increase security will eliminate a convenient online service currently available to Georgia drivers. On May 8, Gov. Nathan Deal and the Georgia Department of Driver Services announced the launch of Secure ID, a program to place Georgia in compliance with the Federal Real ID Act of 2005. “This program will give Georgians the most secure IDs we’ve ever issued in this state,” said Deal in a released statement. “It is our duty to protect our residents’ identities to the best of our ability.” In 2010, Georgia began issuing higher security driver’s licenses and identification cards.
