The 2013 Region 6 AAAAAA boys and girls basketball tournament gets underway this week as nearby Alpharetta High School plays host. The action begins Tuesday, Feb. 12, with the girls and Wednesday, Feb. 13, with the boys. The championship games are on Saturday, Feb. 16. First round of the Georgia High School Association basketball tournament begins Friday.
Forsyth County Schools will be represented by four teams in the Georgia High School Association girls basketball tournaments, which begin this weekend all across the state. Teams from North Forsyth, Forsyth Central, West Forsyth and Lambert high schools all reached the state tournaments in their respective classifications, based on their performances in last week’s region tournaments. North Forsyth and West Forsyth will open play in the Class AAAAA first round Friday night. North Forsyth (20-8) will host Wheeler (13-14) at 7 p.m. Friday. West Hall boys varsity basketball team defeats North Forsyth 82-64.
North Forsyth High School round ballers started off the game against the West Hall Spartans as cold as the record breaking freezing temperatures outside with three straight turnovers followed by three consecutive missed shots. North had problems with the tight man-to-man defense early in the game but came back with some heat of their own before losing a hard fought contest 82-64 at the Spartans' home court. With the score 7-0 in favor of the Spartans in the opening minutes, Raiders 6'5" senior Gavin Sarver was fouled and made both foul shots to finally get North on the board.
