Pumpkins, Great for Holiday Recipes

Greet the holidays with some creamy pumpkin dip or some fragrant pumpkin bread. These both make great holiday gifts.

Pumpkins are here and ready to enjoy. They are fun to decorate with during the autumn months but they’re also good to eat. You can use fresh cooking pumpkins, bake them and scoop out the pulp or, like I do, take the easy way out and use canned pumpkins for my baking needs.  Here are some new pumpkin ideas for this year. The next time you bake a pumpkin pie try using a gingersnap crust for it instead of the traditional flour crust. If you have an ice cream maker, enjoy some pumpkin ice cream.  Two of my favorite ways to serve pumpkin are a pumpkin dip that is served with gingersnaps and in pumpkin bread. Pumpkin bread is easy to make, delicious, freezes well and makes a nice gift. What more can you ask? Below are the recipes for my two …

Cranberry Cherry Relish Perfect for the Holidays

Thanksgiving is almost here, with Christmas right on its heals. Make this cranberry side dish to serve for both occasions.

So much cooking to do; so little time. Just because the holidays are on the way doesn’t mean that we receive extra time in our schedules to prepare for them. Life still goes on as do our daily commitments. With some preplanning and cooking some things ahead, you can prepare and serve a Thanksgiving dinner without completely stressing yourself out. Go ahead and plan your menu now (or last week!). If you plan to serve pie for dessert, it can be made now and then frozen until you need it. Or, you can buy an already frozen pie, like Marie Callender’s pumpkin pie and cook that on Thanksgiving or the day before. Slip it into a glass pie plate, bake it and keep your mouth shut ... I’m just sayin’. Make a squash, or other vegetable, casserole now…

Children are innately inspiring, but when 2,500 of them live in shelters and group homes (yes, orphanages) in the metro-Atlanta area, Cliff Kinsey and the Children's Restoration Network (CRN) epitomize what it really means to get inspired. Cumming's own Cliff Kinsey is the CEO and Co-Founder of the network that has served thousands of children living in shelters and group homes with a wide range of direct service programs and special events. Since its inception in 1993, CRN has given homeless and orphaned children the opportunity to experience the events that should be a part of every child's world, such as getting new school supplies or having a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Home Depot Offers Trade-In Discount on Christmas Lights

The home improvement giant will reduce the price of its new LED lights sets when customers bring in old sets between Nov. 3-13.

Now that Halloween is behind us, it's time to start thinking of the holidays ahead and all the festive decor that goes with them. To help, Home Depot is holding its fourth annual "Eco-Options Christmas Light Trade-In" program, saving customers money every time they trade out old lights for new. A tiered coupon program will save customers anywhere from $3 to $5 when they bring in their old working or non-working Christmas light strings to be recycled and purchase a new set of energy efficient seasonal light-emitting diodes (LED) string lights.  “LED Christmas lights continue to be the growing trend in holiday décor,” said Brad Whited, holiday décor merchant at Home Depot. “Since The Home Depot began selling LED Christmas lights in 2006, the…
