Celebrate Georgia Arbor Day by planting a free red bud or red cedar seedling from Keep Forsyth County Beautiful. The “Bring One for the Chipper” Christmas tree recycling event is underway through Saturday, Jan. 26, at several locations around Cumming sponsored by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB). The annual event has become a tradition for many residents who end the holiday season by recycling their Christmas tree. Whether you have a few pieces of paper or piles of documents that you no longer need, now is the time to get rid of the clutter. During the entire month of December, Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) invites Forsyth County residents to shred documents and other items free of charge. Bring any and all personal paper documents, file boxes, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, empty prescription bottles and X-rays to be destroyed and recycled at no charge during the week. These items will be accepted at Shredderman Document Destruction Service at 3605 North Parkway in Cumming, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please note the shredding service will not be available on Dec. 24 or 25. More than 200 pounds of debris was collected during the day long event.
It was another successful event for Forsyth County as more than 120 volunteers gathered together for the recent Rivers Alive cleanup. At least 200 pounds of debris was collected from along local waterways. The volunteers also filled 75 bags of trash found in 11 different areas along Lake Lanier and local creeks. “We are appreciative of all of the volunteers who came out to make a difference in our community and the environment,” said Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright. She also extended a special thanks to the city of Cumming for providing food for the volunteers. The event, held on Nov. 3, was sponsored by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful. More than 29,000 pounds of electronics were recycled.
This year's electronics recycling event is being called a "success" and for good reason. More than 29,000 pounds of electronics were recycled during the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful event held recently. “We appreciate the residents coming out and participating in the electronics recycling event,” said Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright in a press release. “We also want to thank all of the volunteers who helped at the event.” A total of 240 cars arrived at the Cumming Fairgrounds off Castleberry Road on Oct. 27 to drop off 29,128 pounds of electronics. Keep Forsyth County Beautiful readies for this weekend's river cleanup.
The 2012 'Rivers Alive Cleanup' takes place on Saturday, Nov. 3, hosted by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful. Volunteers who registered are meeting at Mary Alice Park located at 1820 Mary Alice Park Road in Cumming at 9 a.m. to gather supplies. Then they will head out into the county to clean as many lake, river and wetland locations as possible before returning to Mary Alice Park for lunch.
