Forsyth County School Safety

Below is a message from Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Buster Evans on school safety.

  FCS Parents and Staff, I want to thank each of you for your renewed commitment to promoting safety for our students in Forsyth County Schools. I know that you, like me, are hurting at the senseless act of violence that tragically took the lives of Newtown students and staff. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the members of that community. While there is no indication that this is anything but an isolated incident in a state far from Georgia, we do want to take this opportunity to remind our families that all schools have detailed safety plans in place. Our staff conducts regular drills, including those for a building lockdown, and we have a check-in and screening check-in process for all visitors to the campus. We also have …

Follow Up: 27 Dead in Connecticut School Shooting

Local and state police in Newtown, Conn. were called to an elementary school at about 9:30 Friday morning after a gunman allegedly opened fire at the school.

NEWTOWN, CT -- Connecticut police said Friday afternoon that 26 people, including 20 children, were killed at an elementary school after a gunman-opened fire. Another adult was killed at a second location.   The Scene Police in Newtown were called to the Sandy Hook School at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call Friday morning. Authorities said the gunman was found dead inside the school. He was reportedly armed with four guns and a high-powered assault rifle. Authorities said during a press conference that they have retrieved three weapons from the scene. Connecticut School Shooting: Could it Happen in Forsyth County?

Reports say a gunman took the lives of 27 people, including 20 children before he died at a Connecticut elementary school.

A shooting rampage in Connecticut, Friday morning, Dec. 14, left 27 people dead at an elementary school, including 20 children and the shooter, according to reports.  Newtown Patch reports this exclusive: The man identified in media reports Friday as the shooter has told friends that he thinks his developmentally disabled brother may have committed the crime, Patch has learned. A close friend of Ryan Lanza who would not be identified told Patch that he spoke to Lanza as Lanza made his way home from work to Hoboken.
