Rain, Wind and Cooler Temps in Cumming this Weekend

Here's what the National Weather Service says we can expect over the weekend.

Exchange the shorts and t-shirts this weekend for light jackets and rain boots - forecasters are promising somewhat chilly, wet weather in Cumming. According to the National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook, a front from the west will bring widespread showers throughout north Georgia beginning Friday night, through the weekend into Sunday. Strong winds are possible within the system, but no thunderstorms are expected. Rainfall could reach up to two inches in certain areas. The local forecast for Cumming shows cloudy weather will stick around, with temperatures dropping into the mid 50s tonight and wind gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. Weekend Rain Will Soak Cumming, Forsyth

Forsyth County and the north Georgia area is expected to get about two inches of rain through Monday.

Don't get too comfortable with those sunny skies and mild temperatures, Woodstock.  The weekend is slated to bring clouds and rain to finish out the rest of the week. A "shortwave" will move across Georgia over the weekend and "will bring the return of showers and thunderstorms to north and central Georgia for the weekend into the early work week," according to the National Weather Service's Forecast Office in Peachtree City.  The service predicts the heaviest amount of rain could fall Saturday night and into Sunday morning, with total rainfall amounts reaching between two and two-and-a-half inches through Monday across north Georgia. Rain, Cool Temperatures In Store This Week for Cumming

Cumming residents will have to dodge showers and tangle with a brief cold blast mid-week.

Keep your umbrellas close at hand Cumming - at least for now. Rain continues through Monday night with sunshine returning Tuesday. A 100 percent chance of rain through Monday night with the possibility of a thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service. Low temperatures will dip into the low 40's. Showers and thunderstorms will end by early Tuesday morning, then decreasing clouds and plenty of sunshine with a high reaching 59 degrees. Tuesday night will be mostly clear with the low temperatures in the mid 30's. Both Wednesday and Thursday will be sunny, with highs in the mid to upper 50's and lows in the 30's. Two More Rounds of Heavy Rain for Cumming, Forsyth County

Two to 8 inches of rain have already fallen on parts of north and central Georgia, prompting concerns of flash flooding, extensive street flooding and isolated significant flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of Georgia, including Cumming, is in for a deluge as two rounds of heavy rain likely will start Thursday night and continue through Tuesday, so get your rain boots and umbrellas ready. Two to 4 inches and 4 to 8 inches of rain have already fallen on north and central Georgia, respectively, since the beginning of February, prompting concerns of flash flooding, extensive street flooding and isolated significant flooding, according to the National Weather Service's Hydrologic Outlook, which covers Forsyth and a slew of other counties in north and central Georgia. National Weather Service Says Thunderstorms Bring Tornado Threat

Heavy rain, damaging winds, hail, lightning and isolated tornadoes are possible this evening.

Forsyth County is included in the hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service that says severe thunderstorms–and isolated tornadoes–are possible tonight. A strong cold front moving through the Tennessee Valley into North Georgia late today will reach into central Georgia by tonight. The primary hazards from thunderstorms will be isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning and very heavy rain. After possibly hitting northwest Georgia in the early evening, the severe thunderstorms are most likely to spread southeast across the rest of North Georgia through the evening and into the morning.

Showers Forecast All Evening Long for Forsyth County

Flooding could be possible for Big Creek in Forsyth and North Fulton, including Alpharetta.

Shows and thunderstorms are forecast throughout the day, but the strongest chance of heavy rain won't start until this evening when enough precipitation is forecast to possibly cause flooding on Big Creek in Forsyth County and North Fulton. The same warm and moist Gulf air that is allowing dense fog this morning will create conditions favorable for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. Some showers and thunderstorms could produce locally heavy rains over portions of north Georgia that are already saturated leading to flash flooding of small creeks, streams and low-lying flood-prone areas. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms to kick off the work week.

The work week starts off with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly developing after 2 p.m. Otherwise mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Winds will be calm and becoming west between 5 and 10 mph. Monday night a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected with a low around 61. A calm wind is predicted.
