Local Student Awarded $500 from Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club

Elijah Howard, a tenth grade student at West Forsyth High School, was awarded a $500 check for winning the countywide Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Mentor Me North Georgia Rings in the Holiday Season

The Forsyth County non-profit organization held its annual Christmas party for the adults and children involved in the mentoring program.

Mentor Me North Georgia recently celebrated its annual Christmas party, providing holiday fun, food, and festivities for about 100 children and adults involved in the mentoring program of the Forsyth County non-profit organization.  The party, sponsored by the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist and Cumming-Forsyth Optimist Clubs, partners with local organizations like Mentor Me to reach children, according to Michele Sansenbach, club president. "The mission of the Optimist Club is to bring out the best in kids," she said. "We do that through community service projects that touch children, especially those in need - not just financial, but in all areas, including physical and emotional needs." Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club Honors Deputy

Forsyth County Deputy Courtney Spriggs honored by local civic organization under shroud of secrecy.

“This night is about you,” said Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton as he addressed remarks to Forsyth County Deputy Courtney Spriggs. He went on to say that Spriggs “does a tremendous job and is a tremendous asset to the community.”  For her efforts, Forsyth County Deputy Courtney Spriggs was presented with the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club 2011 Respect for Law award last night.  Under the guise of giving a Safe Kids of Forsyth County presentation to the local Optimist Club, Spriggs arrived with handouts and was prepared to speak about Safe Kids Forsyth County, a grassroots coalition of Safe Kids Georgia and Safe Kids USA.  According to her supervisor, Sgt.
