Student Arrested and Charged Over Shooting Hoax Makes Bond

The aunt of the high school student says it was "just a game."

The Flowery Branch High School student who was arrested Tuesday for posting comments about a possible shooting that was to occur at the school is out of jail. Tiffani Torres, 18, of Flowery Branch, posted a $1000 bond late Tuesday afternoon, according to Sgt. Kiley Sargent of the Hall County Sheriff's Office. Torres is charged with one count of disruption of a public school after an investigation determined that she had written on Instagram, a social media site, that a shooting was to occur at the school. But a family member told 11 Alive News that it was a big misunderstanding. "She's not mentally unstable and all the things I've seen so far posted," said Torres' aunt, Jolie Dienes. First of all when you get to be High school age they are not children. these are young people. and game or not was in very bad taste. in light of other tragic events that have occurred as of late. never make a "joke" like this. it is a shame that a senior in high school would have not thought more clearly about the out come of the event.   more ›

Dick's Sporting Goods Suspends Sales of 'Modern Sporting Rifles'

The company suspended the sales chainwide, and removed all guns from sale and display at its store closest to Newtown, CT.

Dick's Sporting Goods has suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of its stores chainwide, the company announced on its website. This includes the Dick's store in Cumming off Market Place Boulevard. In a story first reported on CNN, the company made the decision in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, CT, that left 20 children and 6 school staff members dead. "We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community," company officials announced on the website.
