Piper Sworn in as New Forsyth County Sheriff

Forsyth County officially has a new sheriff as of Thursday, Dec. 20.

Duane Piper has officially been sworn in as Forsyth County's newest sheriff. Using his own Bible, Piper took his oath of office Thursday morning alongside his wife, Cindy, the Forsyth County Probate Court with Judge Lynwood D. (Woody) Jordan Jr. doing the honors. Afterwards Piper thanked the small group of people who attended the ceremony, including several deputies of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. "I appreciate you guys being here, everybody that came, it means much to me to see y'all here," he said. Piper told Cumming Patch that he's looking forward to taking office on Jan. 1, 2013. Duane Piper Wins Race For Forsyth Sheriff

In unofficial returns, Duane Piper is the voters choice as the next sheriff of Forsyth County.

Forsyth County voters elected Duane Piper to be their next sheriff. In unofficial results Tuesday Piper received 62,405 votes and his challenger, write-in candidate DT Smith received 683 votes, according to the Forsyth County Voter Registrations & Elections Department. "In reviewing the initial report of write-ins for sheriff, DT Smith did get in excess of 680 votes," said Barbara Luth, Supervisor of Voter Registrations and Elections. "There are a lot of votes that need to be determined by the board [of elections] as to whether they will accept just Smith or DT."
