Man, 78, Dies in North Forsyth County Wreck

The crash occurred on Browns Bridge Road and Charleston Park Road around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities say a 78-year-old man died at the scene of a car accident Wednesday morning in north Forsyth County. Lee Ansell Franklin, of Cumming, was traveling west around 9:20 a.m. in a 2001 black Lincoln Town Car on Browns Bridge Road (Highway 369) and Charleston Park Road, when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the fuel tank (also known as a saddle tank) of a semi-truck. "It was the saddle tank on the driver's side," said Division Chief Kevin Wallace of the Forsyth County Fire Department. "Of course at that point and time we had about a 150-gallon fuel leak that we had to deal with." The Georgia State Patrol said Franklin was fatally injured. 3-Vehicle Accident in North Forsyth Sends 4 to Hospital

One driver was cited for following too closely.

A three-vehicle accident on GA 400 Thursday evening during rush hour sent four people to the hospital for injuries they received in the crash. Robin Stone of the Georgia State Patrol told Cumming Patch today that around 6:07 p.m. on April 11, two vehicles were traveling northbound in the left lane, while a third vehicle was heading in the same direction in the right lane. As traffic congestion forced them to slow down, one of the vehicles in the left lane rear-ended the other vehicle sharing that lane. The impact caused the car that was hit to cross over into the right lane, striking the left side of the third vehicle. Local Pharmacist Struck and Killed While Riding Bicycle

Michele Keller Chesnut worked for Walmart Pharmacy for more than 23 years and had worked for Goodson Drugs in downtown Cumming.

A 53-year-old woman from Cumming was struck and killed on her bicycle Friday afternoon while cycling on State Route 11 in north Georgia, authorities said. Michele Keller Chesnut, who was riding southbound on State Route 11, was struck head-on by a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Lemrae Dana Winkler, 40, of Sautee Nacoochee, Ga. Robin Stone of the Georgia State Patrol (Post 37) said the collision happened around 4:21 p.m. after Winkler was traveling north on State Route 11 in her SUV. While she was negotiating a curve to the right, her vehicle crossed the centerline, went off to the west shoulder, then back onto the roadway striking Chestnut on her bicycle. UPDATE: Forsyth Teen Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash

An early Saturday morning accident claims the life of a 17-year-old Forsyth high school student.

UPDATE: 3-18-13, 12:20 p.m. (Comment from Forsyth Central High School Principal and Obituary) A 17-year-old Forsyth Central High School student died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash, according to the Georgia State Patrol and Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. Sgt. Jonathan Barrett of GSP told Cumming Patch that Peter Ian Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. GSP received the call to Sawnee Drive and Jackson Drive in north Forsyth County around 12:36 a.m. Sgt. Barrett said Roberts, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Avalon, was headed westbound on Sawnee Drive when he crossed over into the eastbound lane and overcorrected. UPDATE: Head-On Collision Kills Two in Northeast Forsyth

The head-on collision happened Tuesday morning on Highway 53 at Porter Lane.

Update: 3-13-13, 9:44 a.m. (victims identified) The two people killed in Tuesday morning's head-on collision have been identified as Shane Michael Thurmond, 42, of Dawsonville and Valerie Jean Martin, 29, of Cumming, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The accident happened just before 9 a.m. on Highway 53 and Porter Lane in northeast Forsyth County. 17 Fatalities Reported in Christmas Holiday Traffic

Another traffic fatality has been reported by the Georgia State Patrol, whose troopers investigated 685 crashes with 300 injuries.

Seventeen traffic deaths were reported in the 102-hour Christmas holiday travel period, which began Friday at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight, Christmas Day, according to the Georgia State Patrol. There were 685 crashes with 300 injuries and 11 deaths investigated by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). Other agencies have reported six traffic fatalities, including a single-car accident during the rainy Christmas Day afternoon in Duluth killing a 23-year-old man and a fatal two-car collision in Smyrna just before midnight on Monday that claimed the life of a Marietta woman. Eight people were killed last year in Georgia traffic crashes that occurred between Christmas and New Years Day.

In 2011, eight people were killed in traffic crashes in Georgia between Christmas and New Years Day and there were 401 people were arrested for driving under the influence. There is no question that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, from shopping for that perfect gift to attending countless celebrations with family, friends and co-workers.  This year the Christmas holiday travel period begins Friday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday night, Dec. 25. The New Year’s holiday period begins Friday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday night, Jan. 1, 2013. Both holiday periods are 102-hours long. 19 Die in Traffic Accidents over the Thanksgiving Holiday

Speed, alcohol or failure to wear a seat belt are blamed in almost all of the fatal crashes.

The 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period ended at midnight with 19 traffic fatalities reported across the state. The Georgia State Patrol investigated 11 of the 19 fatal crashes that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and midnight. The 19 traffic fatalities is one more than in 2011. State troopers investigated a total of 622 traffic crashes during the period that resulted in 263 injuries. Of the 11 traffic deaths investigated by troopers, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in 4 of the crashes, and 7 of the victims were not using seat belts. There was one fatal pedestrian collision investigated by troopers. Almost all of the fatal crashes involved either speed, alcohol or the victim failing to use a seat belt. Local law …

Stay Safe on Georgia Roads This Holiday Weekend

The Georgia State Patrol will be in full force.

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period begins this evening and traffic is expected to be heavy on Georgia roads throughout the holiday weekend. The Georgia State Patrol will be ready as well and in full force, according to a press release. Colonel Mark W. Ten Fatalities in Georgia Over Labor Day Weekend

The GSP reports 10 traffic fatalities across the state during the Labor Day weekend, a drop since 2010.

At least 10 motorists were killed over the Labor Day Weekend, according to Georgia State Patrol.  That number is down from last year, which saw 15 traffic fatalities. In 2010, 19 were reported.   Fatalities were reported from Cobb County Police, Gwinnett County Police, Henry County Police, GSP Douglas, GSP Toccoa, GSP Valdosta, two from GSP Cartersville, and two from GSP Madison, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety website.  Georgia State Patrol investigated a total of 373 traffic accidents, which resulted in 230 injuries.  On top of the accidents, GSP arrested a total of 240 people for driving under the influence.
