Thousands of music fans invaded Piedmont Park to see some of their favorite bands play on Saturday. After a six-year hiatus, Music Midtown returned to Atlanta. Acts included Band of Skulls, Manchester Orchestra, Young the Giant, The Black Keys and Coldplay headlining the event. Other bands such as The Constellations, The Joy Formidable, The Postelles, Walk the Moon and Cage the Elephant also performed.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announces music festival will return to Midtown.
Music lovers rejoice! Music Midtown will return this year. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Live Nation president Peter Conlon made the announcement Wednesday at the W Hotel in downtown Atlanta. The festival--which ran 12 times from 1994 to 2005--is set for Sept. 24 at Piedmont Park, (about 37 miles from downtown Cumming). Coldplay and Black Keys will headline on Saturday, Reed said at the conference. "There isn't a better place for this," said Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan, who represents part of Midtown. "Piedmont Park is the crown jewel of Midtown. It's a spectacular setting for outdoor music events." Musical performances may be added on Friday night. At the conference, Reed said they are "working on a big surprise for Friday night." …
