There's simply no substitute for parental supervision, but there are a few additional safeguards you can put in place to prevent teens from experimenting with household alcohol or prescription drugs.

  Constant communication with your teens about the dangers of household drugs is only half of the equation when it comes to cancelling out temptation.  Teens are innately curious, and just like 2-year-olds, what they don't know can hurt them. Consider a teen's heightened sense of adventure when it comes to experimenting with something new such as alcohol and prescription drugs. Regardless of parental supervision or communication, a teen's curiosity is a potent lure to experiencing something different. As parents, we can all imagine how these ingredients created the recipe for disaster resulting in Trey Scott Spencer's tragic death and the controversy that followed. Obituary: Trey Scott Spencer

The 15-year-old boy who was found "unresponsive" in the backyard of a friend's home on Monday, will be laid to rest on Friday.

  Trey Scott Spencer, age 15, of Cumming, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011. He was a student at North Forsyth High School. Trey will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, and friend to all who knew him.  Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Shann Clayton and Darrell Outlaw of Rock Hill, SC; father and stepmother, Scott and Lisa Spencer of Cumming; sisters, Erika and Erin Spencer; grandmother, Carolyn Clayton of Rock Hill, SC; numerous step siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives also survive.     Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Byrd and Rev. Gary Coffey officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will …

Forsyth County Authorities Investigating Teen's Death

The cause of death of the 15-year-old is unknown pending an autopsy and two adults remain in custody on unrelated charges.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who was found unconscious in the backyard of a home located near Lake Lanier. According to the incident report, authorities arrived at 9035 Walnut Cove Court in Gainesville on Monday morning around 8:37 a.m. Prior to their arrival, EMS had taken Trey Scott Spencer, of Fairlane Trail, also in Gainesville, to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he was pronounced dead. The incident report states authorities met with Robert Lancaster, 46, and his son Ethan Lancaster, 14. The younger Lancaster said that he and his friend Trey had been drinking bourbon, smoking marijuana, huffing dust cleaner and taking Klonopin (used to treat certain types of seizures and to …

A 15-year-old boy was found "unresponsive" in the backyard of a north Forsyth County home Monday morning and two adults have been arrested.

UPDATE: Nov. 29, 12:20 p.m. (mug shots, suspects remain in custody) The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who was found unconscious in the backyard of a Gainesville home Monday morning. According to Major Dan Jagoe of the Criminal Investigations Division, authorities responded to a 911 call at a home on Walnut Cove Court located in the northern part of the county. The caller stated the young man was laying in the backyard and was unresponsive. Jagoe said in a new release that the teen boy was spending the night at the home of a friend when he was found unconscious.
