Hayes Haunt Starts Friday for Family-Friendly Halloween Scare
A portion of the proceeds of the spook will go to nonprofit The Place of Forsyth.
This year's Hayes Haunt—a family-friendly scare near Cumming—has taken shape and debuts this week.
The annual haunt, a portion of the proceeds of which benefit charity, features animatronics, such as those seen in movies and theme parks. Wife of creator Roger Hayes, Lynn, describes the Halloween spook—through series of enclosed party tents at the family's south Forsyth home—as "creepy and scary, but not bloody and gory."
Nonprofit The Place of Forsyth this year is Hayes Haunt's beneficiary. It serves Forsyth County families dealing with difficult times by providing basic needs in emergencies, operates a thrift store and offers other programs, such as a food pantry.
Roger Hayes sent Patch a sneak peak of the action, above, which starts Friday, Oct. 18, and continues through Nov. 1, for an encore.

In 2011, the family gained national recognition by winning Haunters Video Awards' Best Indoor or Walk-Through Haunt.
Roger Hayes, an engineer by trade who is "extremely creative," designs and creates "monsters, contraptions and animatronics," many of the props seen in the haunt, Lynn said.
