Tips For Maintaining Weight Loss

There are many things that make losing weight and keeping it off a challenge. Seems like every time you turn around there is a temptation in your path. Here are five tips to help you stay the course.

  1. Keep low calorie snacks ready and handy. We all get hungry between meals. The temptation is to head straight to the vending machine. If you have baby carrots, celery sticks, fruit or Greek yogurt on hand you will not need to succumb to that vending machine.
  2. Maintain control at a buffet. Buffets can actually be beneficial to weight loss if you eat the right foods and keep the portions in control. But, for many this is hard if not impossible. Before you fill your plate stop and think about how hard you have worked to get where you are with your weight loss. Do you want to blow it here? Stick to foods you know are good for you. Put smaller portions on your plate. Don't go back for seconds. Focus on conversation and the people you are with.
  3. Plan meals ahead. No one wants to come home after a day at work and cook dinner. The easy (and wrong) choice is to stop for fast food on the way home. Instead, plan ahead on the weekends for the upcoming week. Cook meals ahead, make single portions and freeze them. Then all you need to do is heat and eat.
  4. Curb cravings with water. If you have cravings for salty foods and sweets the best thing to do is to drink a large glass of water. This iwll fill you stomach and help you get past the craving.
  5. Occasionally indulge yourself. Giving up some foods can be really hard. You don't need to completely deprive yourself of foods that you know you should not eat (like sweets). Instead, just take a bite or two to satisfy that desire. Enjoy and savor the bite and then quit. Often when you try to totally resist you end up giving in and eat too much. Note: If you don't think you can eat just a couple bites, then it IS better to do without.
Remember the key to weight loss is diet and nutrition !!
