UPDATE: Woman's Body Found in Lake Lanier ID'd

Two fishermen discovered the woman's body Friday morning.

The body of a woman found Friday morning in Lake Lanier has been identified as Michelle Dianne Baxter, 32, of Gainesville, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Two fishermen who were in a boat discovered the body of Baxter, described as white, around 8 a.m. She was reportedly floating face-down in the northern part of the lake on the Chattahoochee River arm.

Witnesses reported seeing a similarly described woman swimming in the same area where the victim was found during the evening hours of Thursday, Aug. 1.

In a press release, Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the HCSO said the cause of death has not yet been determined.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma and no reason at this point in the investigation to suspect foul play," he said.

The body was taken to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

"There is no further information at this time, as the ME's report is not expected until next week," added Wilbanks in an e-mail.

The case remains under investigation by the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division.
