County Breaks Ground For Courthouse, Jail

Judges and attorneys joined contractors, Cumming and Forsyth County officials in breaking ground to signify the start of construction on the new courthouse and jail buildings.

Forsyth voters enabled the construction by approving SPLOST VII, said Pete Amos, chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners.

Chief Superior Court Judge Jeffrey S. Bagley of the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit spoke about this newest courthouse during his remarks in downtown Cumming Monday morning.

"I say newest because as a teenager... I remember the groundbreaking of the previous new courthouse across the street," Judge Bagley said.

He credited the explosive growth in Forsyth County with the need for more space.
