Have You Met...Author A.E. Mayer?

She writes her way into the heart of anyone who has ever daydreamed on the job. (And who hasn't?)

Meet Cumming's own A.E. Mayer. Her debut novel, "Temp: An Accidental Fairytale" has just been released and is available on Amazon. Mayer captures the adventurer in all of us with this modern fairytale boasting all the comforts of Southern hospitality, charm and wit.

Mayer's foundation for writing started when she was a child. "I was an only child, so I think I was always sort of talking to myself to stay occupied. Storytelling was a useful way to interpret the world and escape from it simultaneously," explains Mayer.

Temp: An Accidental Fairytale, has gained popularity with readers of all ages, and it's easy to see why. The main character, Jackson Belle Bee Elders, is a promising "Magical Sciences" graduate, stuck in the doldrums of a floundering economy. Jackson is trapped in a temp job filtering creatures to magical staffing work and she's downright miserable until the day she plays hooky and her accidental adventure begins. (A substantial preview for the novel is available on Google Books.)

With an imaginative storyline to say the least, Temp pulls readers into a world of its own--a world where escape from the everyday is truly right at your fingertips.

How did Mayer come up with the idea for Temp? You might say it was like a multitude of little accidents (the good kind) colliding at once.

"Unusual ideas hit me like lightning when I’m brushing my teeth. They have a way of carrying me off until I’m marooned in an unknown land," says Mayer. "For me, writing is about grabbing a long stick and hacking your path through the untamed places until you turn around and say, good lord, there’s a story here. It’s a dark and delightful process."

Mayer makes hacking her way through untamed places seem like a nice soft landing on the pages of a book. What's next for this author?

Currently Mayer is taking a break from urban fantasy to write fiction. Two books in the works are, "To Ocean by Way of Toilet: Journey of a Suicidal Goldfish" and "May Strip for Food: Secretaries on the Edge."

It's possible these works may get put on hold because fans are already pressing Mayer for a sequel to Temp. (That's because good writing is no accident!)
